10 pound salmon

Joy of joys, I landed a 10 pound 4 oz salmon this afternoon. Admittedly more joy for me than the salmon.

It was a long patient struggle on light trout gear. This fella (and it is indeed a jack as opposed to a hen) looks like a brown trout. The dark colouring is due to spawning colours. A male/jack salmon or trout have a beak like mouth.

It was bitterly cold but well worth it :-)

We left it in the freezer of a mate of the fisher/hunter in Twizel. After that it will be smoked.
