Bournville

Bournville is a model village on the south side of Birmingham, England, best known for its connections with the Cadbury family and chocolate. The Cadbury firm relied on the canals and railways for the transport of the raw materials to produce their chocolate and despatching the finished product. The Cadbury factory is next to Bournville station and the Worcester and Birmingham canal.

The Cadburys were particularly concerned with the health and fitness of their workforce, incorporating park and recreation areas into the Bournville village plans and encouraging swimming, walking and all forms of outdoor sports. This picture is of the cricket pavilion on the playing fields next to the Cadbury factory. The influence of the 'Arts and Crafts' movement can be clearly seen both in its design and that of the houses and other buildings on the Bournville estate.
