A day of disappointment
Yesterday? After the weekend workshop in Wales and my expedition with Chrissie on Monday I decided that I couldn't achieve what I wanted to achieve with my Nikon D3100. I had a trip down to a fairly well known Photographic exchange outlet to investing in a D90, which would give me more lens options. New( nearly new ) camera purchased I then spent the rest of the afternoon watching youtube videos working out what I could do withal the buttons!!
Today.... I ventured out to see what my new D90 could do. Back to square one in a way- I felt like a complete novice again. I decided to visit a very local historic building in Cheadle, Abney hall -
from Wikipedia -
The walled garden hides an ingenious but extravagant invention which kept the orchard and vegetable garden warm and healthy throughout the year. The walls contain cavities and during the heyday of the hall, warm air was blown from a furnace in the cellar, through the cavities and out of a gothic style ventilation shaft.
The site of the park was formerly part of the Mersey flood plain. Much of the land is still very damp, forming wet meadows. Wetlands are becoming increasingly rare as land is drained for development, destroying the rare plants that rely on the damp soils. Abney Park is one of the few sites in Stockport where you will see such plants in abundance. During the summer, the wetlands are awash with the colour of early purple and common spotted orchids, yellow meadow buttercups and the pink of the cuckoo flower
Agatha Christie is also supposed to have stayed in the hall and written some of her novels there.
Wonderful! Except it is being renovated and not at its most charming or stately. It was covered in scaffolding and plastic sheeting.
Ah well a good opportunity to give the D90 an airing :-(
