Fullers Brewery Tour

In the Hock Cellar after the tour. It wasn't compulsory to taste all the beers but we felt it would have been rude not to.

The fullers brewer is amazing. When they modernised and expanded production they had no more space so they had to go up. So the hot liquor tanks, mash tuns, coppers and FVs are all three stories high. As you do the tour you realise you have moved further vertically climbing up and down the stairs than you have horizontally as it's all quite well crammed in. It is brewing on an industrial scale but still retaining some of the character of the old brewery. The keging plant is amazingly automated with a very efficient German robot called Les who can pick up whole trays of kegs and move them around to be washed and filled. It was great that everything was working while we were there so one of the two mash tuns was sparging and one copper was whirl pooling. Great to see such big kit in action.

Thanks to mslouella for this shot.
