Keep going

We spent a few hours today following the marathon route through Greenwich and over to Canary Wharf. As always there was a great atmosphere of encouragement and goodwill, I really think it is London at its best.

This photo was taken on our way back and shows one of the runners at the back of the course. By this point he had been on his feet for 4 hours with probably another 4 hours to go, at least. He looks a bit dejected by the sight of the street cleaners who have overtaken him and the Canary Wharf towers which still look a long way off.

However we witnessed some really nice human touches. There were still people cheering him on, the ladies at the water station were on hand to give out water and treated him exactly as they did every other runner and the street sweeper was very respectful, putting down his broom and clapping him through.
