Granada Cathedral, Nicaragua

(Still playing catch-up with my holiday photos)

Granada is one of the oldest continuously-populated cities in Nicaragua. Founded in 1524 by Hernandez de Cordoba and named after the Spanish city of Granada, it still maintains a very colonial-era look in terms of its layout and architecture. It is (or is becoming) the main tourism hub of the country, and it wasn't hard to see why on the evidence of our visit.

We stayed there three nights and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and ambience of the place, as well as the architecture. The cathedral is on the main square (Parque Central) and just round the corner from our hotel - not entirely a blessing when the bells start ringing for Mass around 5.45am!
