To Finish the Job
Last Sunday you saw the start of a brew of bitter beer.
It has now finished fermenting and the time has arrived for it to be bottled.
I find this a slightly tedious process because there are thirty bottles that require filling with a jug.
Before that however the beer is racked, that means it is siphoned in to a new container leaving the spent yeast behind. A small measured amount of sugar is added to the beer in order to make it go slightly fizzy in the bottle.
You will be pleased to hear that the old yeast was not wasted because it went on the compost heap!
