Good Friday
Gardening today;
While the weather was pleasant;
Rain's forecast of course!
When I got the e-mail last night telling me the DPS weekly challenge was bugs and insects I thought "that's good, Stella and I are bound to see some on walkies tomorrow."
I planned a lie-in and then a short trip out geocaching and nature-spotting, followed by an afternoon's photo-editing and blip & blog browsing. In healthier times I'd have planned a drive back to Suffolk as Jimmy's Farm open their butterfly house for Easter and I'm pretty keen to get back in one of those with the camera!
My dad had other ideas and I was woken before 8am with the news that he was on his way to trim my hedge. I knew he planned to lop a foot of the top of it but he was supposed to be waiting until my brother could come and hep him.
It soon became glaringly obvious again where I inherited my impatience gene from as within the hour one end of my lovely green privacy and security ensuring front hedge was not one but three feet shorter!
I couldn't muster much more than an "oh" while still waking up from sedative medication and was told that he was going to cut the grass and I needed to decide what he should do next.
Admittedly the thing was trying to grow as wide as it was tall and encroaching on the footpath but it seems he was looking for a drastic solution and, I quote, "if I had a tractor here I'd rip the whole horrible thing out!"
We agreed, so I thought, that he could keep cutting it shorter and strip it back on one side while I chose and organised what I'd replace it with as I didn't want to be left exposed as a) I'm worried about Stella getting out and b) there is a bus stop at the bottom of my drive and I didn't want everyone being able to see in my windows when I was previously used to a secluded spot.
When I took him out a coffee and a hot cross bun, he'd completely stripped about 3 trees bare.
If you're on my Facebook you'll have already seen how it turned out but suffice to say my kitchen is very much lighter at the moment!
The easiest solution I can think of is to put up some of those Willow screening panels while I decide on what to plant - anyone know any fast growing hedge shrubs?!
I am SO grateful of the help but he does go at things like a bull in a china shop!
Feeling rather tired, dizzy and achy now, so much for a comment catching up day!
