Gloriously Unspoilt
The third of four back-blips from our holiday in South Wales.
We'd planned to visit Pembrey Country Park a mix of parkland, beaches and family attractions but hadn't decided whether to travel the 7 or so miles by car, bicycle, bus, train, on foot or a combination of these. On the map it didn't seem that far, well it doesn't does it. So we walked to Llanelli station, caught the train and got off at the next stop which is Burry Port and Pembrey. So far so good, except that Pembrey Station is nowhere near Pembrey, or indeed the park. We walked and we walked, stopped to have some lunch, then walked and walked. Nearly two hours we walked, oh so relieved to arrive at the beach to chill and rest our weary feet. Though, while there I couldn't resist a wander along the dunes to capture a few shots of this gloriously unspoilt landscape.
Of course then there's the return journey and it was so tempting to call a taxi. But no, now being intrepid explorers we headed for the main road to catch a bus and we walked and we walked, then walked some more. At last a bus stop and thankfully only 15 minutes to wait to take us back to Burry Port and Pembrey Station and then the train to Llanelli. Only a 20 minute walk back to the apartment. I reckon in total we walked about 8 miles; there's just nothing like a relaxing holiday when you need one! To be fair Danielle and Casey did brilliantly, striding out without complaining, plus they got to start off this year's tan as an added bonus.
We mustered up enough energy to go out and get some fish and chips (in the car) and boy did they go down well.
