Apedale Pit Wheel

We decided to explore our local environment today and visited Apedale Country Park (which used to be an open cast mine) and the Apedale Light Railway situated within it.

This is the highest point of the country park and the pit wheel commemorates all those who worked in the mining industry in Staffordshire.

There are a couple of other landmarks in this shot which I have blipped before. Under the wheel in the centre, just above the coal waggon is the Wedgwood Memorial and to the right of the wheel is the Mow Cop Castle folly.
