Gently down the stream

Paper sail

It was freezing out in Crab Wood this morning, but I was determined to show you more of the fabulous numbers of flowers out there at the mo (which I didn't think were entirely represented by the mono bluebell of a couple of days ago!). I found some of the biggest patches of violets I've ever seen - slightly going over - and clouds of beautiful wood anemones amongst the bluebells. But wouldn't you just know it, the shots I liked best were of the strange and almost alien-looking arum lilies. Actually, I've always thought they're a bit sinister (as well, of course, as phallic), but really their spathes are rather beautiful - pink, green, cream, with the texture of crepe paper. Lit up by the sun as this one was, they looked like bisected Chinese lanterns lit and ready for take off, or like little yachts scudding along the forest floor.

Okay, that's enough nonsense! Looking forward to a meal tonight with my lovely young folk at the Bangkok Brasserie. Hope you have something equally nice to do xx
