Bonn: "Bundesrat (+ Frl. Reinhard)"
Bonn was capital of the BRD (Bundesrepublik Deutschland - Federal Republic of Germany) from 1949 to 1999, when the role reverted to Berlin.
Like Weimar before it (1919-1933), Bonn was and is a delightful backwater for politicians to haunt. The two key constitutional bodies were housed in the same building:
the Bundestag (today with 631 elected members), a body mainly concerned with legislation; and
the Bundesrat (today with 69 members delegated by the 16 federal states), a body which initiates all legislation but is otherwise subordinate to the Bundestag.
It should be born in mind that each federal state also has its own parliament.
On the rear wall are the coats of arms of the federal states: visible are (from left to right) those of Baden-Würtemberg, (?)Schleswig-Holstein, Berlin, Bremen, Hamburg, and a tiny bit of Hessen
Now to Frl. Reinhard, whose primary role was in obstructing part of my camera's view of proceedings in the Bundesrat. She certainly wasn't a politician. Her name has only been preserved for posterity because in those days slides were produced in cardboard mounts, so copious annotation was possible.
PHOTOGRAPHIC INFO:
