The Easter Bells

As a sign of mourning, church bells are not rung between Maundy Thursday and the vigil mass on Easter Saturday.  I was brought up in the French tradition and during this time the church bells leave their churches to fly to Rome  to be blessed.  On the way back they bring back lots of Easter eggs that they drop in the gardens! To be found by children on Easter Sunday!

I love the Easter vigil because you go into a dark church and the candle light is gradually passed round the church from the Pascal candle.  It's beautiful!
