Restoration project

Dovecotes were not built to last and this is all that remains of one of three and is thought to date from 17th century. It would have had four sides, an entrance door, and a tiled roof. Louvres at the top of the roof would have allowed access for the birds and air circulation. While excavating and preserving the remains of the site in 2008 it was discovered that the interior was probably lime rendered giving reflected light and a degree of cleanliness.

Tucked away behind an ancient hostelry and bordered by blossoming trees it was an unusual find in another very historical nearby town.
