Barns Tower
Today was a bonus – the sun shone again all day – four days in a row with sunshine – this must the first time this has happened since last summer. We took advantage of the good weather and went for a walk along the old railway line which runs next to the River Tweed. This time we went up to Lyne Station so we could see the bridge over the river which is based on the design of the Neidpath Viaduct a little further down the river. All the way along the railway line we could hear willow warblers and chiff chaffs calling, and the fields either side of us were full of lambs sunning themselves. I couldn’t believe how lucky we were to be enjoying this on our Easter bank holiday. This photograph is of Barns Tower – located part way along the walk on the southern bank of the river. It was built as a fortified house and is typical of many such buildings that were erected in the Borders during the 15th and 16th centuries. The tower now provides holiday accommodation!
