The Edwardian Pergola

at West Dean Gardens, near Chichester, West Sussex. The gardens are a restored and working Victorian garden with 13 old glasshouses in the kitchen garden housing grapes, peaches and figs and plants of all descriptions. There is a wonderful collection of vegetables and fruit, a cutting garden and spring garden.
The pergola is over 100mts long, it was restored after the 1987 storm and the gazebo at the end has a knapped flint floor interspersed with horses' molars! There is an amphitheatre in the garden used for productions in the Summer months. I spent a lovely morning walking around this beautiful garden.
