Looking.closely

One of the most noticeable effects of committing to a daily blip is that it has forced me to look more closely at and observe in more detail things that I might previously have overlooked or taken for granted.
This is one such example - the commonplace seed-head of the dandelion.
Looking at it today I was struck by the beauty and delicacy of its' construction.
It really is quire remarkable as well as being incredibly fragile and short lived. Fortunately the day was still and windless.
Taraxacum officinale is edible in its' entirety.
The common name dandelion comes from the French dent-de-lion, meaning "lion's tooth" is given to members of the genus, and like other members of the Asteraceae family, they have very small flowers collected together into the familiar yellow composite flower head. Each single flower in this head is called a floret, and eventually will become what we, as kids, used to call "parachutes".
