Dhafer Youssef

Tonight we saw Dhafer Youssef at the Barbican, playing with the London Symphony Orchestra and a variety of jazz musicians.

I know of no one else who sounds like him - he's a virtuoso oud player, composer and vocalist of astonishing range and capability. His sound fuses middle eastern muezzin with Northern European jazz, producing captivating cinematic soundscapes. I've seen him live four times now: I guess you could say I'm a fan :-)
