Little Red Caboose
This little caboose from the Santa Fe Railroad resides permanently in the backyard of a nearby neighbor. Trees, shrubs and flowers flourish around it, making it look as though it somehow grew out of the ground as well. I would dearly love to have a structure like this in my yard as an escape. Could you imagine going out there to lounge on a sofa and curl up with a favorite book? Or sit at a desk and write letters or catch up on paying bills? Most likely now it would become the space where I look at the wonderful photos on blipfoto.
The Santa Fe Railroad (also known as Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe) was one of the largest in the United States, and operated from 1859 to 1996. They were true entrepreneurs, augmenting rail travel with airplanes, buses, ferries and tugboats to carry passengers beyond where the railroad tracks could take them. It was the subject of an Academy Award winning song titled "The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe", from the 1946 film "The Harvey Girls". The original song for the movie was recorded by Judy Garland. I've never seen it, but perhaps I will now that I have learned more about it.
