Blackfellows Hand
Graham and family are visiting and today we had a picnic at Blackfellows Hand Cave near Lidsdale on the way to the Wolgan Valley.
This was important meeting and educational place for the Wiradjuri people. A large rock shelter contains stencil art, created by blowing ochre mixed with water over hands placed against the wall.
The site is accessed along a bush track and not well known. Last time we visited there was a sign there but it had fallen down and has now disappeared completely. Maybe the name is no longer PC. However perhaps the fewer people to visit, the more chance the site will remain unspoiled and respected.
