Siem Reap
An early morning start to be dropped off at Sentral by #1 family at 8. We had a good trip down to LCCT by Skybus but the terminal is pretty basic and I was glad we had left early as it took quite a long time to get through check-in. LCCT is about to be replaced by KLIA2, not before time. Air Asia let us check in 2 bags for the 20 kg allowance, not like easyJet!
The flight took a couple of hours and we gained an hour as Cambodia, although further east, is an hour behind Malaysia. Siem Reap is a very pretty airport and our tuk tuk driver was waiting for us, complete with sign. J was rapt!
Then we had our first experience of Cambodian driving, absolutely mental. Bikes, tuk tuks, cars reversing, motorbikes going across the carriageway and the against the traffic. We did see an accident but it was surprisingly it was only one.
La Niche d'Angkor turned out to be a lovely hotel with a flower lined pool. Our room was on the first floor with a balcony.
We dumped the stuff (J travels light, I don't) and then went out to find a late lunch/early dinner. the meal at the Khmer Kitchen was great, as was the Tiger beer!
Then it was a stroll round the town. Very much a tourist place with street decorations till up from Khmer New Year the previous week. Pub Street was loud a brash. J had the first experience of a fish foot massage and then we 'did' the Night Market before finding the Island Bar for happy hour cocktails.
After that it was a $2 tuk tuk home (US currency here) and bed!
