Light against the Dark

It's not often a blip hands itself to me as soon as I step out the front door, but as I was leaving the house this morning, it was the kind day I love to see: where there's a dark, threatening sky, but with buildings in front of it lit by strong sunlight and standing out in rich, saturated colours.

Snapped from my doorstep with the long lens, this is the roof of the local synagogue. I have no idea whether there's a proper architectural or religious term for this feature - can anyone enlighten me? - but I thought it looked really striking in the sunlight, with the leaden grey clouds behind.
