The Red Lion, High Street, High Wycombe

The former Red Lion Hotel, in the High Street in High Wycombe, is a Grade II listed building and this statue still exists outside it as a reminder of its historic associations. Benjamin Disraeli, who was MP for the area, made his first political speech here in 1852, either from a first floor window or the top of the hotel portico, and Winston Churchill spoke from here in 1945. Nikolaus Pevsner includes it in his series on the 'Buildings of England'.

Sadly the hotel closed several years ago and the first floor is currently vacant. The ground floor is a Poundworld shop.
