Quiz Night
Tonight was our Photographic Society's annual quiz evening, an important fund raising event to help us keep our membership fees down and make the club accessible to as many people as possible.
For the last 3 years, my wife and I have run this event. However, this year we were too busy with other commitments, so other club members took on the responsibilities, and I just provided the occasional advice or guidance. Today, however, needed lots of help for the final preparations, so we went along to assist.
There is a lot involved in organising a quiz - booking a hall, finding a quiz-master (or preparing the quiz questions if we are doing it ourselves, as one of our members did this year), ordering and arranging the food, finding sponsors or donors for raffle prizes, printing tickets, preparing answer sheets and scoreboards, laying out the furniture, clearing everything away afterwards etc etc. Some of the jobs are quite mundane but take an inordinate amount of time, like wrapping cutlery in napkins - as here.
However, the evening ran very well, the quiz questions covered a good variety of subjects, plenty of raffle tickets were sold, and everyone had a good time. As a bonus, my table were the winners - so I came home with a bottle of wine (as well as one of the raffle prizes).
