Woooooooolves!
What else to do on a rainy sunday afternoon than go into Worcester and watch the Wolves playing basketball. They were in the second leg of the quarter final play off against the London Lions. The Wolves (in blue) had won the first leg by 14 points, so the Lions (in white) needed to win by 15 points to go through. It was a really close game, the Wolves raced into the lead but the Lions came back and at each interval the scores were level. The Wolves played far better basketball though, and the Lions had three players fouled off, which was a reflection on their overly-defensive style.
However, the Wolves sort of lost their momentum, and were perhaps a little cocky going into the final play, and eventually lost the match by two points. Which means that they are now in the semi-final, which is great. But I would imagine that they would need to be a lot more consistent if they are to win that and get to the final.
It was strange seeing basketball played in my home town - the last live game I saw was college basketball in Philly, and they have tried so hard to get some of the same audience participation, over the top commentators, flashing lights and loud loud music on every basket. Mrs BH was not impressed with the commentators encouraging the crowd to boo the opponents' free throws. And she's right, it's not cricket, but it does appear to be part of the game... ah well.
Another new experience, and maybe one we'll go back to again.
