Day 1 - East Oregon Cattle Country
It is about 5 hours to cross the mighty Columbia River from Seattle if you go by the interstate, and then the backcountry of Oregon opens with ranch after ranch, valley and high valley and cattle and great open land for miles and miles. It is a feast for urban eyes. Found this disintegrating home along the way.
Other choices were the cowboy at the cafe with his hat on, he had been out with the cattle all day and in for a meal, a bridge and its strong shadow spanning one of the many gullies, a sky with the streaks of bright storm light hinting at the snow and hail that was up there, and dumped on us this morning.
The internet opportunity is slim - we will be out of range soon for likely two days until we reach Winnemucca, a gambling town in Nevada that as I remember is not good for much else.
