Sports Day
After a weeklong postponement due to cold weather, our school had their "sports day" today. Not only is it a chance for students to compete in various track and field type sports, it gives them a tiny break in their busy school lives (although, I'm sure they have to make missed time up somehow). Also, it gave some of the student's parents a chance to come visit the school and see their children. Otherwise, they only get to see them saturday evening till sunday afternoon.
Before the games begun, all of the classes marched in the opening ceremonies, and for the most part, each class created their own costumes or signs to carry. Our school as around 4,000 students, so it was quite impressive to watch them all march around the track.
Here, I captured some of my students as they shot out confetti from a tube. A portion of the track and field ended up absolutely covered in tons of colorful confetti.
We stayed around to watch the jump rope event for the Chinese teachers, then it was off to learn Chinese at class downtown.
Tomorrow is yet another full day of sports for the students, but we will be leaving early afternoon to head to a holiday party put on by the education bureau. It's a free night of banquet style food, entertainment, and a night in a nice hotel.
I love this time of year.
