Triathletes
Saturday was triathlon day in Lanzarote. Many hardy athletes were exerting themselves swimming, cycling and running over and around ancient extinct volcanoes in the glaring heat of the sun and the vicious wind.
Meanwhile we rented out a couple of bikes and pedalled gently around the centre of the island. With the wind at our backs we made very pleasant progress through the little white walled villas dotted all round, and ended up stopping in the wine region again for some tapas in the courtyard - delicious Spanish food yet again. Sadly the way home was then (as should have been expected) with the wind against us, and we struggled on for what felt like hours until finally getting home and collapsing in the pool again.
We finished off our final day on holiday by getting our car stuck in a pile of sand that had blown onto the road from the beach, but after enlisting some help from a couple of local Canarians we were soon back on smooth tarmac. Gracias amigos!
