Grace's playground

We took advantage of a quiet day at home to do things around the house we've been meaning to do for days/weeks/months. Mr W gave the cars a thorough cleaning, removing months of snack particles, sand and other child generated detritus. Em pottered around the garden and I took inventory of the kitchen supplies we'll need to consume over the next 4 months. Our last in the States.

Later in the day we all visited the new playground in town. It's just up the road and in easy strolling/cycling distance. Em was very excited to explore it and her face when we arrived was beaming. Grace's Playground is one of 26 fundraised and built by volunteers from Where Angels Play, a project commemorating the 26 lives lost in December 2012 during the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, Newtown CT. The playgrounds are being built in places that were worse effected by Superstorm Sandy that broke shore on the east coast in November 2012.

Peace signs, posters and messages of hope and love made by local school children decorated the fences and trees. Fluttering in the sea breeze. The play equipment was decorated with a paper chains made by kids at the local library. Em and I quickly found the links we made. Em found a friend and they played happily and noisily. A ringing endorsement for the volunteers who gave their time to erect the playground in just 3 days and 2 nights.
