Double yellow

A sombre evening on the coast. I trained my zoom lens on the single preening cormorant that was perched half way down Needle Rock, the sea birds' favourite sea stack.

When I opened the image I was amazed to see the colour of the well-fertilized lichen on the rocky perch perfectly matched the colour around the bird's beak, the bare patch known as 'gular skin' that is particularly noticeable in cormorants during the breeding season. It seemed to be a blip.
