One man and his dog!

Backblip 2 Sunday.

I wanted to do this walk on our last trip here in late August but car problems conspired against me, so as soon as we saw it was to be a fine day we headed north to Oldshoremore.

This little settlement in Sutherland was the base for a holiday for our neighbours D and P and they loved it so much they are coming back in June. The main attractions are the beaches. Today Oldshoremore beach was stunning with its white sands and amazing blue seas under a blue sky. (It is as good as the more famous and less accessible Sandwood Bay further north, which we walked 2 years ago, but a little smaller)

This was the start of 6 mile circuit. ( the map said 5 miles but GPS said 5.97 at the end!)

A few people on the beach with their dogs enjoying the unexpected weather and some amazingly coloured rocks as we climbed the headland to the next bay - Polin Beach.

This was totally deserted but these foot prints of 'One man and his dog' were the only signs that anyone had been here since high tide earlier that morning. Across the beach and over the next headland to the small port and landing pier where we found a picnic table to have our lunch. Spent a pleasant hour talking to a local lady who was originally from Rochdale walking her dogs.

Another headland and down to another small but beautiful beach at Sheigla with a lovely 'out of the way' campsite. From here unfortunately we had to return on the undulating road through Blairmore and other hamlets back to Oldshoremore. Fortunately we were going down the steep hill black to the car.

Well worth the hour and a half drive north to do this walk but next time we may just stop at the beach!

I will put links on to show these lovely spots when I get back if anyone is interested.
