Modern Telephony

We live two miles apart. Due to a broken phone, we resorted to Skype this evening. Will we ever learn? To compare the experience to the first transatlantic telephone call would be insulting. Standards were far better in 1927.

After several minutes of a slide show of still, pixellated images and silence punctuated with five-second bursts of echoing voices and crackling hiss, I waved a white flag. Or rather a piece of paper on which I scrawled a pertinent message.

Never again.
