My pretty tulips
She slept beneath a tree
Remembered but by me.
I touched her cradle mute;
She recognized the foot,
Put on her carmine suit, --
And see!
Emily Dickinson
These particular lovely stripey tulips only came from a pound shop but they look just like the ones in those seventeenth century Dutch still-life paintings.
You know,the ones where you get a dead hare, three pounds of grapes, a couple of (lovely stripey) tulips and a peony, all frosted with dew or raindrops and in front of some thunderclouds.
No dead hare or grapes in this picture, but a lot of raindrops!
