The Heart of Middle America
After 14 years of living in the US, where we have been welcomed and loved by many, there are some lasting impressions that somehow typify this country and particularly the area where we live. I have rarely experienced such high levels of patriotism in any of the many countries where I have resided and in Texas this even distills for many to a hybrid state patriotism.
In its innocence and pure love for America the Beautiful, it can be heart warming and reassuring. In those times when it expresses itself at the expense of others or looks arrogantly beyond its borders, I fear for the consequences of its inherent nationalism. This photo was inspired by these thoughts as I saw the flag waving in the wind at the heart of the man in Fort Worth.
