Sentry Duty

This is Baxter on sentry duty early this morning. Ever since he saw the deer in the paddock a couple of weeks ago Baxter makes a bee-line for the deck and stands up at the railing surveying the whole of ‘his’ domain any time we let him out of the house and into the garden. If the deer are about ( we’ve seen them a couple of times since ) he starts barking volubly, so gone are my chances are a decent photoshoot, He can stand like this unaided for a few seconds, merkaat style and frequently does this when we are walking down the path to the river to look over the wall, just in case there are any dogs in the adjacent field. I assume padencos developed this ability in order to see further when they are out hunting for rabbits as they are fundamentally sight hounds.

For those who are interested in new software developments, Lightroom Mobile for iPad has just come out and is free to Adobe subscribers. It allows your to download compressed versions of your raw or any other format files which you can catalogue and edit on the iPad and these modifications are then synced to your main files on your desktop. It works by uploading the files to Adobe Cloud and then downloading the compressed versions to your iPad. Given that upload speeds are generally lots slower than download speeds, it can be a slow process if you are wanting to download many images to your iPad. I did manage over the process of 3-4 hours to download all the images from my book (about 240 images) However, the quality of the images is outstanding and the modifications and cataloguing work well once you got your head round the format of the new iPad App. I’ve yet to discover a really useful guide to the App but no doubt that will come along eventually as Adobe have really upped their game over recent years in terms of training material.
