Splendid wren (western blue wren) Malurus splenden

Drove to Margaret River today with some friends to visit the studio of artist Pat Negus. She is a retired biology teacher who paints the most amazing pictures of birds, botanical species and fungi. She is the author of several books on the flora, orchids and fungi of SW Western Australia. I have been there before, so while the others were buying books etc, I was taking pics of these gorgeous little birds.
This is a female, in spring she will be much bluer and the males are simply, well, splendid!!
Back to perth tomorrow evening (just for a week) so (sigh) back to reality I guess .......
