Fleshmarket Close

Named after the meat market which was situated here which led to a slaughterhouse at the side of the Nor' Loch. Figures who took lodgings here include Henry Dundas, later Viscount Melville and William Creech the publisher of Robert Burns' works.

The crime writer, Ian Rankin, wrote a book based on events here.

On the stairs, on the right hand side, there is a pub called "The Half-way House."
