Three others? For most of my adult life I’ve avidly read and collected American crime fiction, and I have four absolute favourite authors. This guy’s prose and dialogue especially, along with the others’, is top notch.

I love the graphic design of the original American imprints and I picked this up passing through Chicago O’Hare International a few years ago. The UK version’s cover for this volume is crass.

The other three? Well, on another rainy day I may treat you... For now, dive in here; the water’s lovely.
