Macro #3

It's drift wood, a totally worn piece, with a nail that sticks out 12 cm, so it might be 18 cm long in total. Not only have old rusty iron pieces always incited my phantasy but this piece of wood seems to have so many stories to tell. It's about 25 cm long and 9 cm thick at the thickest point. Inspite of decaying so quickly that it leaves a constant little pile of wood dust underneath it ( the joy of the good house wife) you can still see the layers of how this tree once was built up. Some good years, with lots of growth, some not so good ones, where the rings (layers) are a little closer to each other.
Since 100 years people have been logging here in Oregon, so as mentioned before, there are a lot and some very huge pieces of white washed driftwood on the beaches and in the rivers. This one is reddish. And has the nail. But I found it on the beach.

Did it belong to a ship that sank in a storm?

Was it once part of a house, that has been destroyed? By whom?

Or did it belong to a tool, made out of wood?

I probably could write a story for each possibility. Maybe you have even more ideas.

It was the most difficult piece to photograph I did so far....
