Spring greens, Spanish style!
Right now, the countryside down here is still managing to hang onto the beautiful blush of fresh green that comes in spring. But each day the temperature rises and we’ve had just a tiny amount of rain, so it won’t be long now until only the cacti remain and most plants shrivel back to brown for the summer.
In a last explosion of life and colour before the big baking begins, everything seems to be burgeoning at the moment and the place is alive with the sounds of busy insects and birds. By the end of May, however, only the vines (and the various aloes and cacti) will still be green on those hillsides not populated by olives and pines and only the irrigated avocados will be green in the valleys, with pink oleanders providing an occasional splash of vivid colour by the rivers.
Spring is fleeting here, so we’re taking every opportunity these days to enjoy the gorgeous greenery while we still can!
