Mushroom
OK.
Now ... I think this is the same mushroom as yesterday (see bottom left hand corner) that in this oozing condition this morning was fascinating a fly when I arrived. The other photos in the collage show the mushroom at some of the other stages of its life cycle...they are of other mushrooms growing in the immediate vicinity and alongside. I have included the one with the cap that is knocked off it and lying on the ground beside the stem (bottom right hand corner) to show the hollow stem.
When I first saw this - not 100% sure it is the same - yesterday and came back and identified it, I thought it was chlorophyllum hortense because I don't know anything about mushrooms much was impatient to identify it.
Yesterday not that I knew when it matured I didn't see any of the few mushrooms around it were matured or oozing liquid. Remember I am only supposing it is the same mushroom.
I dug out one immature specimen only just appearing out of the ground so as to look at its very immature growth. The soil is saturated and it was easy to remove it whole and see the stem was long like a root in the ground but as well part of the cap. See here at Flickr.
