Planned obsolescence

Tonight I watched a short documentary on Dutch television. Subject: planned obsolescence. It appears that many electric devices have a planned life expectancy. This in order to make you and me buy more often these devices. In printers for instance they include 'suicide chips'. After so many pages the chip 'kills' the printer. Ridiculous. Has my printer such a chip?
