The old railway line
Out walking group was somewhat depleted this month. Age is catching up with some, while others found they had other commitments. Mr C did not come as he wanted to get on in the garden, and he had a a road kill pheasant to extricate from the front grill of the car.
It was Jane's turn to lead the walk this month. We went a 7 mile round from the village, down the only railway line for 3 miles then across the river and home through Cragside. A friendly (not) type told us we could not walk on his path past his house, to access Cragside, nor could we walk along the council road as it had been closed for the last 18 months due to a landslide, and had been fenced off so he said we'd be trespassing there as well. We thanked him for the information but disregarded it and squeezed through the fence to the road. We felt quite rebellious. It's not pleasant to come across vigilante types.
I only had my little camera which was a shame as I spotted a heron on a rock in the river, so here are Gerry, Marge and Ailie walking through the cutting.
Although we were only 7 on the walk, 18 will manage to make it to the pooled supper tonight! I'm to contribute an appetiser so I'm going to make some little Feta and Courgette Fritters.
