Château de Monte-Cristo
Yes it is linked to Monte-Cristo, the famous novel. The author Alexander Dumas (1802-1870) had this château built for him in 1844, as he became one of the top authors of his time. He wrote around 90 books, including the Count of Monte-Cristo and The Three Musketeers. Seems that he had a very busy life, besides books he wrote plays, owned a newspaper, travelled around Europe and Africa, opened his own theater and had plenty of affairs and scandals. Financial problems then forced him to sell the house. Here a link for more reading about it.
It is quite easy to reach. RER A to the end station of Saint-Germain-en-Laye and from there approx. a 25 minutes walk.
And a last hint: Boulangerie Gontran Cherrier, situated in an old petrol station (1, rue de la Grande Fontaine).
