Old Barn
Went for a walk this afternoon across the fields round the village. There were two fallow fields where Lapwings must be nesting as they flew up in the air and then round us with quite distressed calls as we walked past. It's good to see they are here because I used to see lots of them in a particular field on the outskirts of Milton Keynes that has now had a housing estate built on it, and as they are ground nesting birds they can have difficulty finding suitable sites.
It's always surprising to find something nearby that you've not seen before; we came across this old barn only about 200 yards from where we normally walk yet I had never seen it before. I spent my summer holidays as a kid on my Aunty's farm near Berwick and there was a barn a bit like this; it was always the place I went to explore, and had my Den.
