Cowgirls...

It was so hard to choose which pic to blip from this morning's cattle roundup and branding.... the cowboys and cowgirls chasing the herd in from the far hills, the incredible vistas, the great cattle dogs including one tiny little Yorkshire Terrier that was a great herd-dog...nipping at heels and redirecting calves.
I chose the cowgirls here separating the calves from their mothers. The girls still ride horses; while the boys prefer the 4x4 ATVs that create such a racket. There were more girls than boys on the actual roundup because they are less scary to the mothers and calves than the motorized cowboys. The ball cap has replaced the cowboy hat...sad, but I still wear one.
We have over 300 calves to vaccinate and brand so there will be some left for tomorrow morning. Maybe the skies will clear....it rained up until they started the roundup and then again, which forced them to quit.. You can't vaccinate wet calves because of the spread of bacteria on the needles.
