At Tales Of Hoffman

The last opera for our fabulous director of Seattle opera for the last 31 years! We exchanged our tickets for the sunday family matinee of Offenbach’s Tales of Hoffman so we could take Nik and Tatum.(kid’s tickets are $15! And there were not that many kids!) It was a totally wonderful production if a bit long for kids. (there was some fidgeting ) But they did great (after Nik texting his girlfriend telling her he was at the opera with his cousin and grandparents - she responded “is it boring?”) and now that they both have been in musical plays at their schools, I think there is a glimmer of new appreciation for the art. (A few loudly whispered comments such as “ wow, did someone actually PAINT that background? I want that in my room! “ (the sets were amazing!) “what year was this play written? Those pink framed glasses with the orange lenses look like he got them in NYC last week!” (the better for Hoffman to see Coppelia’s doll as alive) “I think he’s had a rather hard life” (after the 2nd girlfriend dies...) and "OMG what just happened?") The general director got on stage at the end with some antidotes and thanks to a standing crowd - it was a bit sad...we will be interested to see how the new director, from New Zealand, can ever manage to compare.

The kids wanted to climb up and down the main staircase so I got them to stop for a nanosecond for a photo.
