Akebono Cedar
I really like this tree. It smells kind of like the cedar that it is, but not as intoxicatingly pungent as some cedars; it sheds its needles like some larches do in the winter, which is kind of strange (for me) as a cedar; it can take a brutal pollarding like a vine (but regenerates much more slowly); and it sprouts little buds like this along very course, dry established bark. I always enjoy walking or running through a stand of these thugs around Nagoya...in any season, they are surrounded by an atmosphere of succinct scent and visual presence. And now I see that I sound like a tour guide.
Well, blame it on the long day and the 2 tins of Asahi.
