Magpie Feather

This feather looked black when we first saw it but a slight change of viewing angle produced some interesting diffraction effects. A birding friend tells me that this effect is what accounts for the colours in a kingfisher plumage.

I had to blow the pic up quite a lot so the quality has suffered. Perhaps I shouldn't have bothered.
