Amorphophallus konjac - voodoo lily
This has to be one of the strangest plants I've ever grown. The tuber sends up a spike in the spring, which then develops a single leaf. The plant remains approximately the same size all summer before retreating into a tuber in the autumn to rest .... Each year it gets a little larger (and produces a few offspring) and eventually it will be mature enough to flower - something I'm not sure I'm looking forward to. Apparently the flower is a beautiful purple colour but has a very pungent smell to attract flies!
